It was from a deleted scene in the American version of the film, in the European version, McLeod is wearing a British uniform in WW1 and saves a young girl from being shot by a Nazi. He gets shot up, chops his head off and picks up the girl. She pokes at the gun shot wounds and looks up. He smiles and says"It's a kind of magic" She's his secretary in the present day...which is why she knows his secret and protects it.
